Nundorite Tumble Stone
Nundorite is an extremely rare mineral formed by the combination of Aegirine (Green) and Orthoclase (Brown). It crystallizes in the form of masses, with a unique spotted pattern of Aegirine displayed throughout. This mineral was discovered in the early 1960s in Nundora, New South Wales, Australia.
The deposit was unusually small and mined to extinction within just a few years. Yet is a beloved mineral of the town Broken Hill, NSW.
“Nundorite. This is not a mineral but a rock. The stone contains small green flecks of Aegerine in an Orthoclase Syenite. It has only been found a one location and that is on Nundora Station, approximately 175 km northeast of Broken Hill. The original outcrop has been denuded and the first pit buried, however, recent exploration uncovered another outcrop on Nundora and this has been worked to supply the new material that has come onto the market.” - Trevor Dart on Mindat
