Found throughout the world the most common Amethyst mines exist in Brazil,Uruguay, Canada, France, India, Madagascar, Mexico, Morocco, Myanmar, Namibia, Russia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, and the United States. It is said that most of the Amethyst sold around the world today was formed around one hundred and fifty million years ago.

These ear rings are hand made, life span and quality of the product does come down to your personal care, usage and storage, they have no protection for the raw gemstone and should not be dropped face down onto hard surfaces - please be mindful that uneven pressure can bend the Metal Stud (just like any ear rings, especially soft Sterling Silver) and this can release the Epoxy seal on the metal, this is a rare occurrence but it is something I'd like to share with you before purchase.

    Amethyst gains its purple colour during its formation, trace amounts of iron and other impurities are incorporated into the crystal structure creating the various types of Amethyst you may have seen. Because of this, excessive exposure to sunlight will displace the iron atoms and cause your crystal to lose its purple hue.

     

    After the crystallization of Quartz, these trace amounts of impurities are altered by natural gamma rays, irradiation and radioactive materials to produce the purple color you know Amethyst to have. The intensity of the colour can vary due to this process, some specimens may exhibit deep purple throughout while others fade or display purple colour through clearer Quartz overlays.

     

    Synthetic and heat treated amethysts are sold under various names, or often undisclosed as not being natural, this disappoints the crystal community so take care to ensure what you are sourcing is the product you desire.
