Amethyst form out of a silica liquid, they are found in igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks, usually found as a deposit in cavities, geodes or as a crystalline growth.Â
Found throughout the world the most common Amethyst mines exist in Brazil, Uruguay, Canada, France, India, Madagascar, Mexico, Morocco, Myanmar, Namibia, Russia, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Tanzania, and the United States.Â
Amethyst gains its purple colour during its formation, trace amounts of iron and other impurities are incorporated into the crystal structure creating the various types of Amethyst you may have seen. Because of this, excessive exposure to sunlight will displace the iron atoms and cause your crystal to lose its purple hue.
